I received a penalty letter from the IRS for failure to file. The 1120S was filed in March of 2023, but the IRS indicates that it should have been submitted by December of 2022. I paid Mr. Edmundson for his tax services throughout 2022 with the payment for this filling to happen back in August of 2022. Once I received this letter, I called Mr. Edmundson and he suggested I call and ask for a first time abatement since he indicated he had sent the 1120s on time. I called the IRS on April 10, 2023 and at that time they stated that he had requested an extension for a calendar year and submitted a fiscal year return, and that I would need either an 8821 or 2848 to be submitted to fix the error before an abatement could be issued. I immediately contacted Mr. Edmundson to find out where the error existed and explained what the IRS had told me.
